BIRTH: Month of birth estimated as December 1860 from date of baptism of 15 December 1860, below. Baptismal record names parents as Thomas Kerr and Anne McGarrigle.

CHRISTENING:
Full date of 15 December 1860 given for the baptism of Mary Kerr in the baptismal registers of Lough Derg, Pettigo, County Donegal, Ireland, as provided by personal communication to Robert M. Simon in October 2011 from the parish office. Parents named as Thomas Kerr and Anne McGarrigle. Witnesses/godparents were John McGrory and Anne Kennedy.
Full date of 15 December 1860 given for the baptism of Mary, daughter of Thomas Kerr and Anne McGargle (McGarrigle), in the 1851-1877 Baptismal Registry for the Parish of Carn, Pettigo-Belleek, transcribed by John Cunningham and Vynette Sage, and posted as an Excel spreadsheet (1851-1877_Baptisms,Pettigo(Fathers,alphabetical))(J.Cunningham_&_V._Sage).xls) at www.fermanagh-gold.com. Same witnesses as above.

DEATH: Because an almost identically named younger sister (Mary Ann Carr) is listed both in the Baptismal Registers of Lough Derg and in the Irish Civil Registration Records as being born in 1864, and no further records of this Mary Carr appear, it seems likely that she died young.

ALTERNATE POSSIBILITY:
This person may be the same person identified as Grace Carr in Philadelphia City Death records. Her death and burial link her to the Carr fanmily, and it may be that the baptismal register entry was incomplete (for example, if her parents thought they were naming her Mary Grace). Normally, the first female child would be named after the maternal grandmother (Grace Monaghan Carr), and it is odd that the name never appears among the children of Thomas Carr and Ann McGarrigle.
Further research, perhaps to find a passenger record, may help shed light on this possibility.
