Elizabeth was recorded as the youngest daughter of John Smyth of Corsham in the will of the latter made on 01 Apr 1538 and proved on 08 Nov 1538[1].
In the Visitation of London in 1568, Elizabeth was recorded as the daughter of John Smyth of Cossam (Corsham, WIltshire) and the wife of Simon Horspoole, Citizen and Draper of London[2][3]. The Entry also records six children from the marriage of Elizabeth and Simon: William, Simon, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary and Hawis.
Elizabeth Smithe married Simon Horsepoole by General Licence dated 14 Apr 1562, London[4].
In the will of her brother, Thomas Smythe esq., the will made on 22 May 1591 and proved on 29 October 1591[5] the Testator bequeathed to his ‘brother’ Horsepoole and his wife, £250.
The will of her sister in law, Alice (Judde) Smythe, made on 10 Jul 1592[6] included bequests to her brother Horsepoole and his wife; her cousin Kinge and his wife; her cousin William Horspoole; her cousins Simon, Thomas, Hawis, Joan and Katherine Horspoole.
Elizabeth was noted on the memorial to her husband at All Hallows, Lombard Street, London[7]. "Here lieth buried the body of Simon Horsepool, free of the Drapers Company; also free of the antient Wool-Staple; free of the Merchants-Adventurers of the old Haunce and Muscovia. He was chosen Sheriff of London, An. 1591. He married Elizabeth Smith, daughter to John Smith, of Cosham, in the County of Wiltshire, Gent."
