William Robert (always known as Bob) was born in Gravenhurst in on 3l- July 1900. In 1920,
aged 19, he went to Canada to join his brothers sailing from London in the SS Corsicon to
Quebec or Montreal before proceeding by train to Gladstone, Manitoba. However, it would
seem that life in the prairie did not suit him and he was back in England by 1925 when the
Electoral Register shows him back with his parents at Cart's Farm, where he lived until L932
when he married Elizabeth Mary (often known as'Pop') daughter of Alfred and Lily Croxford of Streatley, near Luton.
They started life at 3 Campton Road, Gravenhurst (Cart's Cottages), where they remained
until [c1938] when Bob found Manor Farm at Ravenstone, near Olney in Buckinghamshire
for rent. He continued to rent it for the rest of his life, despite being urged to buy it by his
brothers.
Bob and Mary had three daughters all born at Ravenstone: Diana (b.1939)who was to marry
Graham Parrish (no relation) of Chicksands, near Shefford), and the twins Jill and Nanette (b.
1943). Jill was to marry Clive Christian in 1966, and in 1971 Nanette went on to marry Derek
Rogers (known as 'Budge') who became famous as an international rugby player and
Captain of England.
Bob died in I976 and Mary in 1984.
