In the Visitation of Wiltshire in 1623 the Smith Pedigree includes John Smith of Corsham, WIltshire as the son of Robert Smith of Corsham and his wife, a daughter of Butler of Corsham. John Smith had married Jane, daughter of Earle of Holt, Wiltshire; and was the father of Mathew Smith of Corsham, Wiltshire.

John was noted as the son and Executor of the will of his father, Robert Smythe, Clothman of Corsham, Wiltshire, in the will of the latter made on 05 Apr 1555 and proved on 22 Jun 1556.

It is presumed that this John Smith was the John Smith of Corsham referred to as the brother in law of Richard Bellott of Corsham in the will of the latter made in 1558, Richard Bellott having married Alice, the daughter of Richard Erle.
