Robert was a beneficiary of the will of his brother, Philip Smyth, in 1537.

Robert Smyth of Corsham was recorded as a taxpayer in Wiltshire for the benevolence of 1545.

In the Visitation of Wiltshire in 1623 the Smith Pedigree includes Robert Smith of Corsham, WIltshire as the husband of a daughter of Butler of Corsham; the father of John Smith of Corsham and the grandfather of Mathew Smith of Corsham. The Visitation also recorded that the informant (Mathew Smith) presented a 'coate' in an old Seale said to be 210 years old, i.e. from c1413.

In his own will made on 05 Apr 1555 and proved on 22 Jun 1556, he was recorded as Robert Smythe, Clothman of Cosham (Corsham) Wiltshire.

He made bequests to: his wife Agnes; his son Robert; his son Phillip; his daughter Maud Collemore and to his godson Robert Collemore; his daughter Joan Love and her child; and his godson Robert Smythe of Henley. His son John Smythe was appointed Executor.
