Wallace Verbrugge, age 64, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. David Brower officiating.
Burial will be Tuesday, at 10:00 A.M. at RoselandCemetery in Sanborn, prior to the Memorial Service.
Visitation will be Monday, April 23 from 3-9 P.M. with the family present from 7-8:30 P.M. all at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Wallace Glen Verbrugge was born on June 15, 1942, in Sanborn, Iowa. He was the son of Nick and Katherine (Zwagerman) Verbrugge. He lived his youth in Sanborn, where he attended the Sanborn Christian Grade School and Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa, graduating in 1960.
He served in the U. S. Army, where he left Sheldon from the Old Rail Road Depot on February 26, 1964, and returned home on February 7, 1966, a total of 1 year, 11 months and 12 days. He was stationed stateside and in Vietnam.
He later attended NITC in Sheldon, through the G.I. Bill, graduating with an Agriculture Production Degree. He farmed on the family farm, was a Crop Adjustor and a Farm Bureau Insurance Agent.
He was united in marriage to Glenda Kay Oostenbrug of Sanborn, Iowa, on August 18, 1967, in Sanborn. They lived their whole married life on the family farm near Sanborn.
Glenda passed away on December 6, 1991.
He was united in marriage to LaVonne Van Diepen of Sheldon, Iowa, on July 12, 1996, in Sheldon. They lived in Sheldon and wintered in Mesa, Arizona. They enjoyed golfing together and playing cards.
Wally was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, where he helped deliver bulletins and was involved in Bible Studies. He was a spiritual man, kneeling in prayer by his bed at the end of each day. He had a positive influence on many peoples' lives.
He was a member of the Sanborn and Sheldon American Legion and the Sheldon V.F.W.
He especially enjoyed playing with the grandchildren and being involved in their extracurricular activities like football and baseball games.
Wally passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: LaVonne Verbrugge of Sheldon, IA; his children: Rachel and Mike Kleinhesselink and their children: Travis Postma, Dillon Postma, Marshall Kleinhesselink, all of Sheldon, IA; Wade and Traci Verbrugge and their children: Brady Verbrugge, Kaeli Verbrugge, Baylor "Little Wally" Verbrugge, all of Eldridge, IA; his step children: Steve and Angie Smith of Sheldon, IA, Peggy and Bob Jager of Ashton, IA, Ted Smith and his special friend, Karen Postma of Ashton, IA; many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother: Harvey and Linda Verbrugge of Sanborn, IA; one sister: Arlene and Andy Haarsma of Hartley, IA; one sister-in-law: Velma Verbrugge of Sanborn, IA; one brother-in-law: Henry Koldenhoven of Sanborn, IA; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Glenda; his parents; one brother: James Verbrugge; one sister: Myrna Koldenhoven; step-mother: Stella Verbrugge.
