Nick Verbrugge, 91, of Orange City, formerly of Sanborn, died Friday, March 13, 1998 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

A memorial service was held on Monday, March 16 at l:30p.m.at lmmanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jeff Sajdak officiated.
Burial was held prior to the service at 11:00 a.m. at Roseland Cemetery near Sanborn. A family prayer service was held at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.
Nick was born March 13, 1907 at Leota, Minn., the son of Jacobus and Maria (Vander Vliet) Verbrugge. He was raised in Minnesota.
On Jan. 26, 1933 he married Katherine Zwagerrnan in Sheldon. They farmed at Matlock and Sanborn. In 1969 they retired into Sanborn. Mrs. Verbrugge died Feb. 4, 1974 in Hartley.
On June 1, 1976 he married Stella Kreykes Noteboom in Sanborn. They made their home in Orange City.
In May of 1992 Mr. Verbrugge became a resident of the Heritage House.
He was a member of the Immanual Christian Reformed Church and a former member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church where he had served on the consistory. He had also been a board member of the Sanborn Christian School.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Myrna and Henry Koldenhoven of Sanborn, and Arlene and Andrew Haarsma of Hartley; two sons and their wives, Wallace and LaVonne Verbrugge of Sheldon and Harvey and Linda Verbrugge of Sanborn; a daughter-in-law, Velma Verbrugge of Sanborn; a stepdaughter and her husband, Lenora and Forrest Hubers of Orange City; a stepson, Norvin Noteboom of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight step greatgrandchildren; three sisters, Hattie Vedders of Milaca, Minn., Alice and her husband Alfred Van Schepen of Ireton and Nellie Christians of Edgerton, Minn.; and two sisters.-in-law, Louise Verbrugge of Pella and Helen Verbrugge of New Jersey.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James Verbrugge; a daughter-in-law, Glenda Verbrugge; an infant great-grandson; four brothers, James, John, Cornelius and Frank Verbrugge; and three sisters, Grace Vander Lugt, Marie Dykstra and Elizabeth Verbrugge.
