He was cremated and placed at the family property. When his wife died their cremations were then scattered into the St Lawrence River at their request.

Dad was a military career man, rising through the ranks during WWII, and eventually retiring in 1967 as Lieutenant Colonel. He enlisted in the Permanent Active Militia, Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps as a private in 1938. In July 1939, Dad was promoted to Armament Staff Sergeant and transferred to the Canadian Active Service Force. There, he was promoted to Temporary Armament Staff Sargeant and appointed Acting Armament Quartermaster Sargeant. In 1941 he was promoted to Lieutenant and in May of 1943 promoted to Captain. In July 1943, Dad was transferred from The Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps to the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME). He was promoted to acting Major then was reverted back to Captain on posting. In July 1946, he was transferred to the Canadian Active Force and in October 1946 was promoted to Major. In 1959 he was promoted to acting Lieutenant Colonel and in 1960 was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. Dad was honorably discharged in June of 1967.
Dad served in both the Italian front and the liberation of Holland. He received the following Decorations:

> United Nations Emergency Force Medal
> Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal 1953

After his retirement, Dad joined UNICEF as a Transport Management Consultant and spent several years in Guyana, Indonesia, Pakistan and Korea. After serving with UNICEF, he built his own house on picturesque Howe Island, east of Kingston in the Thousand Islands, which he later sold to his oldest son, Claude. He subsequently built a large two-story edition to a travel trailer he had parked on the property across the lane from the "Big House." Dad died of a massive heart attack on 13 July 1989. His remains currently lie under a flower bed overlooking the St. Lawrence River on the property he came to love so much. In August 2002, Dad was posthumously awarded the United Nations Emergency Force Medal from the Canadian government for his peacetime duty in Egypt, and a "1945 Thank You" medal from the Dutch government for his part in the liberation of Holland. Mum was presented with these medals during a ceremony at Howe Island.
