'Services for Marles DeVries held Wed. at Second Reformed
Following an illiness of six weeks, Marles DeVries died at her home east of Lennox on Mother's Day, May 10, 1992, having attained the age of 69 years, two months and four days.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 13, at Second Reformed Church, Lennox, with the Rev. Barry Wynveen officiating. Music was provided by Esther Buse, organist, and by vocalists Gayla Wift, LaNeil Friese, David Friese, and DaroldFriese, accompanied by Darlene Friese. Honorary pallbearers wer grandsons, including Troy Thompson, David DeVries, Harold DeVries, Chad VanGeest, Scott Gustafson, Matthew Olsen, and Jason Sanderson. Casketbearers were grandsons also,they being Jon DeVries, Brian Thompson, Craig Etl, Shawn DeVries, and Aaron Lang. Intement was in the Lennox Cemetery.
Marles Marcella DeVries was born on a farm south of Lennox on March 6, 1923, the daughter of Tebbo T. and Abbie (Schneiderman) Knock. She attended rural school, grew up in the Lennox area, and graduated from Lennox High School in 1941.
On February 10, 1942 she was united in marriage to Andrew DeVries at Lennox. They lived in the Chancellor-Lennox area their entire married life. Her husband preceded her in death on June 30, 1980. She continued to live on the farm eastof Lennox since that time. She cared for many people in their homes throughout the Lennox area.
Marles was a member of Second Reformed Church in Lennox and the Lennox American Legion Auxiliary. For many years she was the accompanist for the Andrew DeVries Quartet, having given gospel concerts throughout the area.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father on May 11, 1983, and her mother on November 4, 1983.
Grateful for having shared her life are her 11 children and their spouses: LeAnn Tatro of Minneapolis, Mn., Laurna and Rick Gustafson of Denver, Co., Larry and Sandy DeVries of Lennox, Lorraine and Dan VanGeest of Inwood, Ia., Lowell and Harriet DeVries of Madison, Leland and Shirley DeVries of Davis, Linda and Terry Thompson of Prairie du Chien, Wi., Lena and Thomas Sanderson of Rapid City, Lorretta and Kenneth Lang of St. Paul, Mn., Lorin DeVries of Lennox, and Leota and Davis Olsen of Fairview; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Knock of Bryant; two sisters: Mrs. Alvin (Ardell) Timmerman of Lennox, and Mrs. Harold (Evelyn) Whirledge of Bryant.'
