VERNON WINTERS, 73, of Alden, Iowa, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services for Vernon Winters will be 2:00 pm Saturday at the Linn's Funeral Homes, Iowa Falls Chapel. Private burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday evening at the Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family c/o his wife: LaVine Winters: 312 Water Street, Alden, Iowa, 50006.
Vernon Dale Winters was born June 4, 1930, one and one half miles west of Ackley, Iowa in Franklin county, the son of Otto and Jan (Jennie) [ Riebkes ] Winters. He attended Franklin County country schools.
He served with the United State Army from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean conflict.
On August 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to LaVine Darlene Harms at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wellsburg, Iowa. To this union two girls were born: Verona and Darla.
Vernon worked as a Road Maintainer Operator for first Franklin County and then Hardin County, Iowa for the over 30 years.
Vernon is survived by his wife: LaVine Winters of Alden, Iowa; two daughters: Verona Parr and husband Larry of Ames, Iowa, Darla Winters of Hampton, Iowa; five grandchildren: Jason Ellingson and wife Amanda of Marshalltown, Iowa, Angie Simonson and husband Pete of Ankeny, Iowa, Ryan Jimenez and fiancée Tiffany of Iowa Falls, Iowa, twins: Jennie and Christopher Ellingson of Ames, Iowa; one great grandchild: Brayton Jimenez of Iowa Falls, Iowa; two sisters: Dolores Delly and husband Gordon of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Mary Ann Colbie and husband Bernie of Ackley, Iowa, and one brother: Paul L. Winters and wife Bonnie of Weatogue, Connecticut.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Otto and Jennie Winters; and one infant sister.
VERNON WINTERS, 72, of Alden, Iowa, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services for Vernon Winters are pending with the Linn's Funeral Homes, Alden Chapel.
