Funeral services for Sylvia Heyes, 94, will be held 10:30 a.m. Saaturday, September 2, at First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Burial will follow at Ramsey Reformed Cemetery near Titonka.
Sylvia Esther Abbas was born on March 17, 1912 in Lakota, IA to Hillard and Freeda (Nelson) Abbas. Sylvia attended country school.
Sylvia was united in marriage to Ben Heyes on January 18, 1933. Ben passed away in September of 1972.
Sylvia and Ben farmed near Lakota for 10 years and then they bought a farm in Grant Township. Sylvia moved to Buffalo Center after Ben's death.
Sylvia enjoyed volunteering and volunteered at Brewton, Alabama for 11 years and also volunteered at Cook School for Native Americans.
Sylvia enjoyed getting together with her family during the holidays. She always had a birthday cake ready for her family's birthdays.
Sylvia enjoyed playing scrabble, traveling, crocheting, and Hardanger handcraft. Sylvia passed away on Sunday morning, August 27, 2006 at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center, where she was a resident for nine years.
She is survived by her children: Marvin and his wife Beverly of Buffalo Center; Mary Harms and her husband Forrest of West Des Moines; her grandchildren: Gary Heyes and wife Laurie,; David Heyes and wife Paula; Craig Heyes and wife Linda;Paul Heyes and wife Joan; Randy Harms and wife Lisa; Allen Harms and wife Jyl; and Lynn Pajunen ahd her husband Roger; 10 great-grandchildren; and her siblings: Anna Tjaden of Mesa, AZ; Elsie Purdy of Lancaster CA; Walter Abbas ofDelavan, MN; Betty Whitney of Delavan, MN; Margie Wallace of Chandley, AZ and Gloria Purdie of Glenville, MN.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben, her brother Art Abbas, her sister Violet Johnson, and her brother Ernest Abbas." <>
