"William Heyer
William Herer, age 97 of Britt and formerly Buffalo Center, passed away Sunday, October 20 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. Funeral services was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 24 at the First Reformed Church inBuffalo Center, with Pastor Bill Peake officiation. Interment was at the Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center.
William Heyer, son of William and Grace (Naber) Heyer, was born September 4, 1916 in Winnebago County. Bill grew up around Buffalo Center.
Bill was a member of the First Reformed Church of Buffalo Center and never missed a broadcast when he couldn't attend. On September 19, 1940, he was united in marriage to Anna Folkerts. To this union, the couple was blessed with fourchildren: Judith, Larry, Arlo, and Bruce.
Bill took over the farm from his dad and continued to farm until retiring in 1982. they then moved to a acreage near Buffalo Center, and in 1997, they moved to Britt, where their children were.
To Bill, farming was his way of life, even after he had made the transition from the farm to town. He always watched how the crops and markets were doing and read his farm magazines. He also liked watching wrestling of TV and attendedfarm auctions.
He was a very talented person, repairing and building most anything. He built tractors and trailers for the boys. He also built the garage on his house when he moved from the farm at the age of 80.
Bill is survived by his four children: Judy (Dick) Leerar of Britt, Larry Heyer of Britt, Arlo Heyer of Britt, and Bruce (Debra) Heyer of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Brian (Kim) Leerar of Britt, Randy (Teresa) Leerar of Lee's Summit, MO,Lori (Wil) Benjamin of Chicago, IL, Jeremy (Jessica) Heyer of Boone, and Jennifer (Wade) Roberts of Clear Lake; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Fred; and loving wife.
