"John Ubben, 83
John G. Ubben, 83, of 307 2nd Street SW, Buffalo Center, died Friday evening, September 15, 2006 at United Hospital, Blue Earth, Minnesota. A funeral service was held Tuesday, September 19 at 1:30 p.m. at Ramsey Reformed Church ruralTitonka, with Reverend Dennis Redeker officiating. Music was furnished by organist Joleen Heyer and soloist Ben Den Hartog. Burial was in the church cemetery. Casketbearers were his grandsons. Christopher Ubben, Mark Ubben, KirbyUbben, Aaron Den Hartog, Adam Den Hartog, Chad Van Kley and Kurtis Van Kley. The Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Titonka was in charge of arangements.
John Gordon Ubben, son of Peter and Johanna (Rippentrop) Ubben, was born on October 19, 1922, in rural Kossuth County. John attended country school near Titonka and then helped on the family farm. March 16, 1945, he was joined inmarriage to Irene Gray at Ramsey Reformed Church in rural Titonka. They farmed southwest of Buffalo Center for thirty-eight years. John and Irene retired from farming in 1984 and moved to Buffalo Center.
In his younger years, John played softball in the church leagues but particularly enjoyed family softball games. In his retirement he enjoyed bowling and watching his grandchildren play football, basketball, baseball and other school andchurch activities. John and Irene also enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and relatives. Another favorite of John's was playing Aggravation and Dominoes around the kitchen table.
February 2006 John began to experience declining health. In mid-August he received treatment at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, and was transferred to the Blue Earth hospital on September 1. John passed away on September 16, 2006.Throughout his life John was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and an active member of the Ramsey Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, son, Verlyn and his wife, Marlys, of rural Frost, MN, and their children, Sarah (husband Greg Hofland, children Evan and Makayla), Kari (husband Nathan Perrine, children Jasmine and Job) Tina, Abby,Christopher and Mark (wife Abigail); son, Ken and his wife Cheri, of rural Buffalo Center, IA, and their children Kelly, Kirby and Kristi (husband Jeff Frambach, daughter Samantha); daughter Joyce and her husband, Ben Den Hartog, afEstherville, IA, and their children, Andrea (husband Brad Lory), Aaron (wife Callie) and Adam; daughter Sharon and her husband, Craig Van Kley, of Blue Earth, MN, and their children Kay (husband Bernie Beigh), Chad, and Kurtis (wifeAmanda); and daughter Marlys and husband, Duane Sanders, of Lincoln, NE.
He is also survived by two sisters, Grace Smidt and husband, Warner, of Titonka, IA, and Dorothy Giesking and husband, Butch, of rural Titonka,; one brother-in law, Willis Murra, of Buffalo Center, IA, and two sisters-in-law, BonnieUnderbakke of Kiester, MN, and Wilda Ubben of rural Titonka, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ubbe and his wife, Therese; his brothers, Evert and Herman, and one sister, Marie Murra." <>
