"GRAY, ARNOLD 1894-1944 GRAY, SADIE HUISMAN 1897-1979

Arnold Gray, son of Henry, Sr. and Dora Schipper Gray, was born in Bellingwolde, Netherlands April 9, 1894. He and his parents, brothers and sisters came to America in 1903, settling in Hamilton County, near Kamrar, Iowa. On March 6,1918 Arnold married Sadie Huisman, daughter of Folkert and Gretje Naber Huisman of Kamrar. She was born January 25, 1897 near Kamrar.

Shortly after their marriage they moved to the Titonka area where they farmed. They were the parents of nine children:

Richard, married Iola Meinders. Vernon, married Iola Rippentrop. Lester, married Irene Ites Alvin, married Irene Rippentrop. Arlene, married Vern Rafdal. Lois, married Marvin Behrends Dorothy, married Meint Huesman. Lloyd, married Sharon Winter. Larry, married Kathleen Betels.

There were forty-two grandchildren. The family had membership in the Ramsey Reformed Church.

Arnold passed away February 19, 1944. Sadie passed away December 31, 1979."

ARNOLD GRAY, 49 PASSED AWAY AT HOME SATURDAY

The news of the death of Arnold Gray last Saturday came as a surprise to his friends, very few of whom knew that his condition was serious. The funeral was held at Ramsey Reformed Church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by his pastor theRev. F. Snuttjer, who read the following obituary:

The Almighty God, our kind heavenly Father, in His all-wise and never failing providence, has seen fit to remove from this life into eternity, the beloved husband and father, Arnold Gray.

He was born to Henry Gray and his wife Dora nee Schipper on April 9, 1894, the fourth child of a family of seven children. He was born at Bellingerwolde, Netherlands, at which place he spent the first nine years of his life. In the year1903, he with his parents and the other children of the family, came to America, settling at Kamrar, Iowa. In this vicinity he resided until his mariage in 1918.

On March 6, 1918, he was united in marriage to Miss Sadie Huisman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Folkert Huisman, with Rev. C. V. Pence of Webster City performing the ceremony. This happy union God blessed with nine children, viz: Richard,Vernon, Lester, Alvin, Arlene, Lois, Dorothy, Lloyd and Garry.

After their marriage the young couple moved to the vicinity of Titonka. For three years they resided west of Titonka, the next seventeen years wre spent on the Mrs. Mary Bruns farm north of Titonka, and since 1936 they resided on their present farm.

This winter he contracted influenza and seemed unable to fully recover from its after-effects. About two weeks ago a severe pain developed in one of his legs and he sought relief with those of superior knowledge, but in spite of all thatloving hands did his condition did not improve very greatly. On last Friday there were indications that his condition was growing worse. On Saturday he enjoyed a light dinner with his family. Shortly after dinner he expressed a desire to take a noon-day nap but found it impossible to lie down. At his own request, his beloved wife assisted him to a lounging chair. Then [sic] it became apparent that his condition was alarming, the members of his family were summoned tohis side and at his request, he with them engaged in prayer. His last words to his family, so fitting and so comforting, were, "Let us unite our hearts in prayer." A physician was summoned but before he had arrived the deceased hadentered into the vast expanse of eternity. He passed away on Saturday, February 19, 1944 at 1:45 in the afternoon, having reached the age of 49 years, 10 months and 10 days.

Mr. Gray was a kind, sympathetic and understanding husband and father. He was a man whose heart was much pained by the sorrows and distresses of life. He knew what it meant to weep tears out of concern for his own, but also wept tearsbecause the Savior had suffered so much for sinful man. The remembrance of those tears afford us unspeakable comfort at this time of sorrow.

He leaves to mourn his early departure his grief-stricken wife, nine children, viz: Richard, united in marriage to Iola nee Meinders, of Buffalo Center; Vernon with the U. S. Army, stationed somewhere in the South Pacific; Lester, unitedin marriage to Ileen nee Ites; at home Alvin, Arlene, Lois, Dorothy, Lloyd and Larry. Also the following brothers and sisters: Henry of Titonka, Stoffer of Eagle Grove, Marie (Mrs. Dick Gelder) of Wellsbury, Henrietta (Mrs. JerryJanssen) of Thompson, and Garret of Lake Mills; one grandchild and a number of other relatives and a host of friends."
