Funeral services for William 'Bill' Albers, 88, of Lake Mills were held Saturday, July 7 at Asbury Methodist Church in Lake Mills. Rev. Jeanne Martin officiated. Doris Grotewold served as organist. Casketbearers were John Albers, Troy Rosacker, Richard Thompson, Gaylan Willert, Roger Hanna and Paul Alphs. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center, with military rites conducted by Lake Mills Otto-Chose Post 235. William passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at Muse Morris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
William 'Bill' Albers, son of Henry and Mary (Smith) Albers, was born July 11, 1912 in Buffalo Center. As a small boy he moved to Woden with his parents. He attended school in Woden and was baptized at the Woden Presbyterian Church. Heserved in World War II in the 84th Signal Corps. He was a lifelong member of the VFW in Waseca, Minnesota and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lake Mills. He was united in marriage to Mary Willert in Thompson on August19, 1931. He did several jobs in his lifetime. The couple ran Mary's Cafe in Hartland, Minnesota and he drove a school bus for the Hartland Schools. He retired from Waseca High Schools as a janitor. After moving to Lake Mills, heworked for a couple of years doing park work. Bill had a hobby of making wagons and horses for several years. He loved animals and helping his neighbors.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary, of Lake Mills; two sons: Maynard and his wife, Mary, of Owatonna, Minnesota; Kenn and his wife, Rondi, of San Diego, California; three daughters: Marcene and her husband, Walt Harms, of New Braunfels,Texas; Kathy and her husband, Dean Richardson, of Waseca, Minnesota; Jeanne and her husband, Floyd Fuller, of Lake Mills; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers: Ernest Albers of Californiaand Ted Albers of Buffalo Center; two sisters: Margretta Steen of Buffalo Center and Mabel Kadlecik of Britt; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one grandson, Jim Albers."
