The Horry Herald, Conway, SC August 7,1924
Gary E. Hardee was born September 17, 1893, and departed this life July25, 1924, at the Florence Infirmary where he had been taken for a thirdoperation, for an intestinal disease with which he had been continuallytroubled since the early spring of 1923. He bore all his sufferingremarkably well and even in his last hours could smile at loved onesstanding by his bedside and say that he was feeling fine. The poet haswell said that Jesus could make a dying bed feel soft as downy pillowsare, and we feel that such was the case with Gary, for in his earlymanhood he accepted Christ and united with the Hickory Grove BaptistChurch, where he lived a devoted member until death. He served as clerkand also as treasurer of his church for number of years. He was also aloyal member of Hickory Grove Camp No. 701, W.O.W. and held responsibleoffices in his camp. In 1923 he was elected secretary of the BethlehemSunday School Institute, which position he held until God saw best tocall him to his eternal rest. He leaves a wife and four small children, afather and mother, three brothers and five sisters, besides a wide circleof friends to mourn their loss, but we feel that our loss was his eternalgain. He was funeralized on Saturday following at 2 o'clock, by hispastor, Rev. T.H. Patterson, at his home near Hickory Grove, where alarge circle of sorrowing loved ones had gathered for the occasion afterwhich his remains were taken to the Graham Cemetery for interment, wherethe occasion was futher solemnized by some of his fellow members of theWoodmen of the World. May the good Lord bless all the grief stickenfamily and friends and help them to bear up in these darkest hours, andhelp us to live such lives before Him that we may all meet in a betterworld. This is my prayer. A Friend, L.B.C.
