BIOGRAPHY
He built a small empire on the banks of te Waccamaw River, near what is now Pireway, North Carolina. He developed large land and slave holdings, invested in turpentine stills and tried to bring a railroad into the ares. His "stinginess" was well known and many old timers tell stories about it.

:JOSEPH GORE FORD. J.P. Stanley, John H. Gore, J. F. Butler commissioned to build a bridge at seven creeks at the Joseph Gore ford. It was completed in 1891 and Columbus County sold the old barge for salvage.
