EZEKIEL HAWS, born New Hanover Co., NC 2 Feb 1759 - d. 20 Feb 1841.
Married 1797 to BETHANY VANN, Resident of New hanover Co., NC.
Service: he volunteered 1776 and again in 1779 under Cpt. Wiliam Narr and Lt. John Matthews. He was with the Sampson Co., Militia.
He was in Kemper Co., MS, 28 May 1838. Children Ezekiel Jr.
NC Pension Roll trasnferred to MS in 1836.

National Archives Revolutionary War Pension Applications and Bounty Land Warrants. RW 1226. Micro Copy No M804, Roll No1226. On this the 12th day of November 1832, personally appeared in open court,before said court, Ezekiel Haws, a resident of Columbus County, aged 73 years and upwards, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath, makethe followingdeclaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7, 1832.That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers, and served herein stated.In the spring of the year1776 (as well as can now berecollected) it being about the time of planting crops, then a resident of New Hanover Conty and the British then laying in two ships of war below the flats in the Cape Fear River, he became a volunteer in a company of New Hannover Militia, commanded by Cpt Thomas Devane and Lt George Robeson; the company rendeyvouedat Wilmington in N. Hannover County; marched to Old Town and thence to Ancrum's Plantation above Old Town; and on the British retiring, were ordered back to Wilimington. Some of the Anlow (Onslow?- ed),Duplin and Bladen militia were in the service at the same time,they were all under the command of a Col Routledgte; there were also some Continental troops at that place under thecommand of Col Harkin. All the troops at Wilmington were commanded by Gen James Moore, who he believes was also a Continental Officer. After remaining at Wilmington for a short time, he obtained a furlough to go home for 20 days; he returned at the expire from thereof remained until after the British had left the coast of North Carolina, when he was discharged, havingserved 3 months,the period for which he was called into service. He was payed at Wilmington and received a verbal discharge.
Sometime in the early part of the year 1779, as well as now can be recollected, he received $72.00 proclama from Cpt James Moorehead of Bladen County, North Carolina as a bounty to join then what was called the New Service on the Continental establishment; it being understood at the time, that they were destined for the Northern Army; the men enlisted Bladen, marched to Duplin Courthouse, where they were commanded by Cpt Robert Raiford. After being there a short time they were informed that their services were not then wanted, they were accordingly furloughed for six(?) months. In the meantime, procamatin was made for the new Elizabethtown, Bladen County, in order to complete their term of service; inobedience thereto; he repaired to the place where,with the other new service, he was marched by Cpt Mooreheat to Puresburgh SC,where the American Army, under General Lincoln was there stationed - there was the first ....still on page 3pushing to Charleston; on the confirmation

The contents of Ezekiel Haws pension file were summarized in the Mississippi Genealogical Exchange Vol 5, No. 4 in December, 1959. This article included information which we did not have and had not been able to verify. We then reordered Ezekiel Haws' pension application from the National Archives. The third time we received copies of all the information.

Isaac Hawes Jr. of Caroline County, Virginia married Phoebe Peyton and they had seven children: Bennett, Burton, Nellie, Nutty, Peyton, Nancy, & Nicey. In 1797 Isaac Hawes,Jr. and his family and the living descendants of Isaac Hawes,Sr. migrated to Edgefield district of South Carolina and to Lincoln County, Georgia (across the Savannah River from each other). This Isaac is well documented and had no son named Ezekel. Isaac Hawes,Sr. had a younger brother named Samuel Hawes II of Caroline Co., whose first son was Lt.Col. Samuel Hawes and a hero of the Revolutionary War. When I saw your name I did a double-take. Good Luck
