WILLIAM HENRY "BUD" ENNIS Obituary
William Henry "Bud" Ennis, of Louisburg, Kansas, formerly of Kan- sas City, Missouri, died June 18th, 2014. He was the son of William Gibson and Mary Innes Brown Ennis in Kan- sas City, Missouri at the family home on January 10th, 1918. Bud attended Sanford B Ladd School and graduated from Paseo High School in 1935. After attending Junior College for a year Bud went to Missouri University in Columbia, Missouri where he pledged Phi Gamma Delta. In March of 1941 Bud was em- ployed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and worked in traffic offices in Mil- waukee, Wisconsin, Phoenix, Ari- zona, Tulsa, Oklahoma and St. Louis, Missouri in a program put forth by the war effort. In March of 1942 Bud enlisted in the Navy. On July 5th, 1942 Bud married Roselee Kerdolff and immediately left for St. Louis having been assigned to the Zone Intelligence Office with the rank of Yeoman 2nd Class. In September of 1943 Bud was sent to Officer Train- ing School at Northwestern Univer- sity in Chigago, Illinois and gradu- ated with the rank of Ensign. He was ordered to the USS Pennewell DE 175 based at Recife, Brazil for duty. Other assignments included duty on the PC 1181 in Anti-Submarine and Convoy Duty in the South Atlantic. Discharged in 1945 with the rank of Lieutenant J.G. Bud became a mem- ber of the Naval Reserve Training Center, Division 9-121 in Kansas City, Missouri. From 1945 to 1953 Bud worked for Trans World Airlines in Freight Traf- fic, Industrial Relations, as Chairman of Economic Proceedings Depart- ments and attended night school at UMKC graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. During that time two children were born, Margaret Ann in November of 1946 and William Clai- borne in March of 1950. In 1955 Bud was employed by Western Auto where he was aide to the President and later manager of the Market Research Department. From 1967 through 1969 he did con- sulting work for Gustin-Bacon Com- pany. In 1969 Bud purchased the Bank of Louisburg, fulfilling a long-time dream of owning his own company. He was active in the Louisburg community growth and civic affairs by helping to energize the town through services the bank provided. During his ten year ownership, the bank prospered and a new building was erected. The Bank of Louisburg was the first in Miami County to in- stall a computer system for opera- tions. Joe Towne, then editor of the Louisburg Herald newspaper, said this about Bud; "Ennis has done, and attempted to do, more for this community in the past twelve years than any other single individual." Af- ter selling the bank in 1980 Bud oversaw several businesses before retiring in 1990 to care for his first wife of over fifty years, Roselee, during her struggle with Alzheimers Disease. Roselee passed away August 6th, 1997. In October of 1998, Bud married Mary Ellen Tooley (nee Gardner), of Louisburg and moved to his farm just west of town. He was a member of the Kansas Bankers Association, the Kansas Calvary, the Louisburg Lion's Club, the University Club of Kansas City, the Native Sons of Kan- sas City and the American Legion Post #250. He was a founding mem- ber of Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church in Kansas City and served as Deacon while there. He was also a long-time member of Second Pres- byterian Church in Kansas City.Bud was preceeded by his parents, his sisters Martha Amelia Johnson and Mary Betty Ennis, and his brother Lyman Ennis. He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen of the home, his daughter Margaret Ann (Keith) Hau- ber and son William Claiborne (Diana)Ennis, four grandchildren, Newman Ross Donnell IV, Ian Foster Donnell (Shanna), Erin Ennis Donnell (Zach Harris) and six great grand- children, Austin Tyler Donnell, Alex- andra Ellen Donnell, Liliana Morgan Donnell, Eli Evin Donnell, Brayden Jay Harris and Sabrina Roselee Don- nell. He is also survived by his sister Joanne Aylette Bourquin of LaQuinta, California and sister-in-law Cordelia Murphy Ennis of Pasadena, California, cousin Jeanne Ennis Boyer of Lee's Summit, Missouri and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by extended family members from Mary Ellen's family: Carol and John Coffey, Cindy and Justin Laipple, Susan and Rich- ard Jost, Kevin and Mary Tooley and Ken Tooley, eleven grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Louis- burg Methodist Church, Louisburg, Kansas from 5PM to 7PM on June 30th. A Memorial Service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, Kansas City, Missouri at 10 AM on July 1st. A private inurnment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired at 3101 Main Street, Kansas City, Mis- souri or to a charity of your choice .
