BARONY OF TYBOTOT (I)
PAYN TYBOTOT, 2nd but only surviving son and heir, was born 11 November1279 or 24 June 1281. He served against the Scots in 1300, 1303-04 and1310 and was summoned against them, 1309-14. In October 1304 he wasgranted protection to accompany Edward, Prince of Wales across the seasand he was summoned, 22 March 1306/7, to be in London by 22 May to gowith Prince Edward for negotiations with the King of France. Justice ofthe Forest beyond Trent, 18 August 1307-March 1307/8; also Keeper ofNorthampton Castle, 20 August 1307-March 1307/8. He received furthergrants of protection, January 1307/8, to cross the seas with the King,and, February 1313/4, to accompany the Earl of Gloucester overseas withQueen Isabel. He was summoned to Parliament from 10 March 1307/8 to 26November 1313, by writs directed Pagano de Tybotot, whereby he is held tohave become LORD TYBOTOT; and was summoned to a Council, 8 January1308/9. On 6 August 1309 he was one of the nobles who wrote to the Popecomplaining of abuses in the Church; and in March 1309/10 he supportedthe appointment of the Lords Ordainers. Justice of Chester, 24 October1309-December 1311.
He married, sometime before 3 September 1311, Agnes, daughter of William[DE ROS), 1st LORD ROS OF HELMSLEY, by Maud, younger daughter and coheirof John DE VAUX. He was killed at the Battle of Bannockburn, 24 June1314, aged about 34. Agnes married, 2ndly, before 17 June 1315, Thomas DEVERE, only son and heir apparent of Robert, 6th EARL OF OXFORD. Pain de Tibetot, who, serving in the Scottish wars, during the latterpart of the reign of Edward I, was summoned to Parliament as a Baron.Upon the accession of Edward II, in 1307, served from March 10, 1308, toNov. 25, 1313. He was subsequently Justice of the Forests beyond Trent,and Governor of the Castle of Northampton. His lordship, who made severalcampaigns into Scotland, fell eventually at the Battle of Strivelin, anno1314. He married Agnes, daughter of William Ros.
