Mrs. D. Chelette Succumbs After Lengthy Illness
Mrs. Daisy C. Colvin Chelette, 55, died at her home here Tuesday morning,
after a long illness. She had been confined to her bed for many months,
although in recent weeks she had been able to be up for a visit with her
sister, Mrs. Annabelle Dickerson, here. Her condition became criticalabout
a week ago.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10:30 at Hixson Brothers FuneralHome
chapel with Dr. W. L. Holcomb, pastor of First Baptist Church,officiating,
assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Winnfield PresbyterianChurch.
Burial was in Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers.
Mrs. Chelette was born in Unionville, Lincoln Parish, May 31, 1898, andcame
to Winnfield in 1901. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. A.
Colvin, pioneer Winn residents. She was married to the late E. M.Chelette,
September 5, 1917, who preceded her in death in 1929.
Know to her many friends in Winnfield as Daisy, Mrs. Chelette owned and
operated Daisy's Beauty Shop here for more than 20 years.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving her are one son, E. M. Chelette, Jr., of Galveston, Texas; one
daughter, Mrs. Mildred Rall of Pittsburg, Pa.; two grandchildren, SharonAnn
Chelette and Catherine Lynn Rall; one brother, T. H. Colvin of Alexandria;
four sisters, Mrs. Annabelle Dickerson and Mrs. A. T. Drewett, Sr., of
Winnfield, Mrs. G. E. Bozeman of El Paso, Texas, and Mrs. Johnnye LaFleurof
Ville Platte; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Acting as pallbearers were A. T. Drewett, Jr., W. E. "Spec" LaCroix, Fred
Colvin, Justin Colvin, David Payne Colvin, Troy Smith, Lee Grigsby, andJames
Mallard.
Attend Funeral
Out of town friends and relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. Fred
LaFleur, Mrs. Levi Landreneau, Mrs. Ernest C. Fontenot, John MarionLaFleur,
all of Ville Platte; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Colvin of Homer; N. C. Colvin, Lane
Colvin, Mrs. Stella Colvin, Mrs. Alma Hogg of Dubach; Mr. and Mrs. Jared
Beville of Kilgore, Texas; Mrs. Howard Finn and daughter, Mrs. Harry VonEinem
and son, of Shreveport; Mrs. Doris Russum, Mrs. Armedico Wilson, Mrs.Maxine
Hetzel, Ike LaCroix, of Alexandria; Mrs. Agnes Beltz, Eunice Richardson,Lula
