George Teeple, who died at his residence on Thursday, Feb 25th, was born at Yarmouth, Ont., Aug 9th, 1830, and was married when he was 23 years old to Margaret Ann Appleman at St. Thomas. Ten years later,—Mar, 1865, he
moved into Michigan and settled on the corner of section 16
of the Township of Burlington, Lapeer co. He was the
affectionate father of 10 children in all, seven of whom
survive him—four boys and three girls, two of the [---] are
married and one is now in Dakota and one in Burlington. He
experienced religion about seven years ago and has been a
consistent member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Clifford
ever since its organization, and being an indefatigible
worker, took an active part in the affairs of the church.
Throughout his life he made numerous friends, who
recognized his stirling integrity, for he was a sober, honest
and industrious man, every ready to help or console any
neighbour in trouble. His charity was limited by his means.
When ever any good work was to be done, he was always
ready in his quiet unostentatious way to help it along and
much of the success of the church in this neighborhood is
due to his example and earnest work. He was an affectionate
father and a most sincere friend, whose loss will be long felt in the community. He was confined to his bed but three days
prior to his death. The funeral service was conducted by
Rev. B. Hains of Dayton who officiated at the special reqest
of his mother who was present from Canada, assisted by Rev.
H. Seaman and Rev. J. Rowe, and there was a very large
assembly of sorrowing relatives and friends who followed
the body to its last resting place at the South Burlington
burial ground.
