John Kipp was born August 14, 1775 in Westchester County, New York.
(The family lived in North Castle (sometimes called New Castle) at the time, so that was probably his birthplace). He died on December 22, 1846, in Sparta, Ontario, Canada.
More about John and Ruth, founders of Sparta, Ont: Zipporah (John's mother) subsequently remarried her cousin, Caleb Carpenter, after James Kipp's death, in a second marriage for both in a Quaker ceremony in Chappaqua, New York in 1796. Caleb and Zipporah were Quakers; James Kipp's parents had been Quakers. In addition, James had two brothers who, as Quakers, remained neutral during the Revolution. It is not surprising then, that when James and Zipporah's son, John, married Caleb's daughter, Ruth, that they retained their Quaker background. When John and Ruth moved to Canada, (probably after Zipporah's death in 1818--which dovetails nicely with the foundation of the Quaker community in 1819) they moved with other Westchester Quakers to the Quaker community of Sparta, Ontario. Since Canada was part of the New York Yearly Meeting of Quakers, the Kipps did not move outside the political sphere of their religious group. This may have seemed more important to them than the fact that they were emigrating to another country. - Anne Toohey
Quaker Records:
According to the minutes of Oswego Monthly Meeting:
16th of 3rd month 1803. (West) Branch PM forwarded a request from John Kipp to join the society (he was accepted in the 4th mo.)
18th of 5th month 1803. (West) Branch PM forwarded a request from Ruth Kipp/Kip to join the Society (she was accepted in 7th mo.)
14th of 10th month 1807. John Kipp requested a certificate of removal for himself and family directed to Creek MM.
A Certificate of Removal from Oswego MM dated 18th of 11th month 1807 shows that John Kipp and Ruth his wife removed to Creek MM with their two minor children Jesse & Maria.
Abstracts of Creek MM records show that John and Ruth Kipp, and children Jesse, Maria, Caleb, Zipporah (born 6-2-1811), Joseph and William were given a certificate of removal to Pelham dated 8-22-1817.
Apparently the Kipp's weren't members of any Quaker meeting in Dutchess County before 1803.
West Branch Preparative Meeting was located in the town of LaGrange. It was originally allowed as a meeting for worship by Oblong MM in 1792; a meeting house was built in 1796. Oswego MM was set off by Oblong in 1799 and West Branch became a PM as part of Oswego MM.
Creek MM was centered in the Clinton Corners/Hyde Park area of Dutchess County.

"The certificate came to Pelham MM, recorded 22-08-1817 from Creek MM - (Crum Elbow Prep. Mtg.) This is in Box 22 under files 10-12 for Pelham -- which holds "loose" documents. They went straight to Yarmouth (later Sparta, I believe, and Pelham was the MM with oversight for that still). Norwich MM set off in 1819 as more Friends arrived in the area and could support a mtg to stand on its own. Certificate for: John and Ruth Kipp, with children: Jesse, Maria, Caleb, Joseph, Zipporah, and William (I presume in order of age). Reuben and Sarah Haight from the same area on the Hudson had list of children in birth order. I know from other records that substantiate that." - Jane Zavitz-Bond
Quaker Census of 1828, Members of the NY Meeting at the time of Separation (edited by Loren Fay):
Kipp,
--John
--Ruth
--Jesse
--Zipporah
all in the Norwich MM, Oxford Co Ontario . They voted to go with the Hicksites.
