"A Marion teenager was killed this morning in a traffic accident on Illinois route 13, two miles east of Crab Orchard.
Ginger S. Hill, 19, of rural Marion, was fatally injured when a car she was driving crossed the path of a tractor-trailer truck driven by jeffrey R. Johnson, of Creal Springs, Illinois State Police said.
Johnson sustained no injuries.
The accident occurred at 7:35a.m. today when Hill, northbound on Dikersburg Road, skidded onto Illinois Route 13 as she approached a stop sign, police said. Hill went into the path of the tractor-trailer truck heading west on Illinois Route13.
Hill's car was reportedly drug three-tenths of a mile before the tractor-trailer could stop.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
No arrests were made, police said.
Alan Ozment, chief deputy sheriff at the Williamson County Sheriff's Department, said traffic was on hold for more than two hours.
"Any wreck out that way poses a big traffic problem," Ozment said.
Traffic was backed up for more than a mile as east-bound and west-bound motorists sat idled."
