Dad and Mother settled in Buffalo Center, in an apartment above the Femrite Variety Store, now Senior Citizens Center, and Dad started working as a farmhand on the Chicago Stock Farm. Soon the head dairy barn position opened up and Dadwas chosen by Mr. Young to receive that position; he was allowed to move into a house on the farm. Mother had charge of keeping the office clean. My brother Ralph was born there on January 8, 1912. ..."

"Mrs. Jake Mastin Died, Funeral Here Today
Funeral services are to be held for Mrs. Jake Mastin, this afternoon, Thursday, November 10, at 1:30 in the Methodist Church with Rev. F. W. Shreve in charge. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery here. Pallbearers include HarmShortenhaus, Bennett Mitchell, John Wubben John Badje, Harold Bohl and Herman Beenken.
Lydia P. Spencer, daughter of William B. and Sarah E. Spencer was born near Boonville, North Carolina, March 19, 1885, where she grow to womanhood. She was baptized in, and became a member of the Boonville Baptist Church while a young woman. She was united in marriage to James K. Mastin, of Elkin North Carolina, December 27 1908 at Boonville. The family moved to Buffalo Center in 1911 where they made their home on farms in the community unti. 1935. While here theyunited with the Methodist Church where she was a member until her death. In 1935 they left Buffalo Center, returning in 1955 Mrs. Mastin passed away Tuesday, November 8, at 7 a.m. age 75 years, 7 months and 19 days.
Mr. and Mrs. Mastin had two sons, Paul of Buffalo Center and Ralph of Elmore, Minnesota, They raised a niece, Mattie, Mrs Seorge Bowers, of Buffalo Center who was like a daughter to them. She is survived by three brothers, Kenos ofElsinore, Calfornia; Hayden of Eagle Lake Minnesota; and Raymond of Mason City, Iowa. Her parents and one brother, Winfield preceeded her in death. She is survived by eleven grand children and seven great grandchildren as well as manyother relatives and friends." <>
