George Neville, 1st (?) Lord (Baron) Latimer/Latymer, so created 25 Feb1431/2, PC (1439), JP (Cumberland 1437); knighted 1426, succeeded 1430 tohis paternal half-uncle John Neville 6th Lord (Baron) Latimer (ofCorby)'s estates; married c Feb 1436/7, as her 1st husband, LadyElizabeth Beauchamp (born c 1417; married 2nd, as his 2nd wife ThomasWake and died by 2 Oct 1480), daughter of the 13th Earl of Warwick, anddied 30 or 31 Dec 1469. George Neville, 1st Lord (Baron) Latymer, so created by writ of summons25 Feb 1431/2, PC (1439); knighted 1426; went mad by 11 June 1451, butremained only intermittently so since he went on being called toParliament for another 18 years; thought to have supported theLancastrian party; married Feb 1436/7 Elizabeth (died by 2 Oct 1480),daughter and in her issue coheir of Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick.[Burke's Peerage, p. 1640]

BARONY OF LATIMER [NEVILL] (I) 1432

GEORGE NEVILL, a younger son of Ralph (NEVILL), 1st EARL OF WESTMORLAND(died 21 October 1425), by his 2nd wife, Joan, legitimated daughter ofJohn of Gaunt, DUKE OF LANCASTER, succeeded in 1430 to the estates of hispaternal uncle of the half-blood, John (Nevill), Lord Latimer. He wasknighted in 1426. He was summoned to Parliament from 25 February 1431/2to 7 September 1469, by writs directed Georgio Latymer chivaler, wherebyhe is held to have become LORD LATIMER. He was a trier of petitions inthe Parliament of 23 Hen. VI, was one of 13 kinsmen who were peers ofParliament 1450-55, and was a member of the Privy Council in 1439, andappeared before it in May 1443, but the occasion is not stated. In 1434he was a commissioner for array in co. York, in August 1436 he wasappointed a commander, against the Scots, and in 1437 he was on thecommission of the peace in Cumberland. On 13 February 1436/7 he andElizabeth his wife had a Papal indult to have mass celebrated beforedaybreak. He became a lunatic before 11 June 1451, when custody of hislands was given to his brother, Richard (Nevill), Earl of Salisbury, butapparently had lucid intervals. He is said to have been with the(Lancastrian) Duke of Exeter at Hull in 1460, awaiting Queen Margaret'sarrival, having been personally summoned by the Queen.

He married, before Id. February 1436/7, Elizabeth, daughter and coheir ofRichard (BEAUCHAMP), EARL OF WARWICK, by his Ist wife, Elizabeth, onlychild and heir of Thomas (DE BERKELEY), LORD BERKELEY, which lastnamedElizabeth was, according to modern doctrine, suo jure Baroness Lisle andBaroness Berkeley. She, who was aged 22 in 1439, inherited Stowe andother lands in Northants. He died 30 or 31 December 1469, and was buriedat Well, co. York. His widow married Thomas WAKE, of Blisworth, esquire,who died 20 May 1476. She made her will 20 September 1480, desiring to beburied in the Beauchamp Chapel (St. Mary's), Warwick, beside her son. Shedied before 2 October 1480, when most of the writs were tested.[Complete Peerage VII:479-80, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

Note: I think "Id." stands for Ides, which is the 15th of March, May,June, and October; but the 13th of the remaining months, being an oldRoman date still referred to in Latin as "Idus".
