Tiefenbach History
August 14, 1706
1. Henrich Albrecht, Count of Sayn, Wittgenstein and Hohenstein
granted permission to Johannes Greber and brother-in-law Johann Henrich Pfeil to construct a house in the valley of Tiefenbach. They could cultivate the nearby meadow and clear another area for ten female cattle and one ox. They owed no rent until 1709.
2. Maria Elisabeth Greber (1705-1771), daughter of Johann Greber (1674-1734) and Anna Elisabethe Pfeil (1680-1754) married Simon Pischl (1693-1762) in Arfeld, 1722, and inherited the Tiefenbach property.
3. Daniel Bueschel (1726-1792), Master Bricklayer and eldest son of Simon & Elisabeth, married Elisabeth Achenbach from Richstein (1728-1786) in Arfeld. It was he who had to repent for being Catholic and raise his children Evangelical Reformed.
4. Michael Bueschel (1754-1822), Meister Linenweaver, and eldest son of Daniel and Elisabeth married Elisabeth Pfeil (1751-1782) in Elsoff, 1775. Of their 3 sons only the eldest Daniel (1774-1842) lived through adulthood. Michael’s second marriage was to Maria Magdalena Schneider (1758-1816) of Beddelhausen in 1785. Their children were born at Tiefenbach. They constructed a new home on the site in 1802; that date and their names are carved above the front door.
5. Their son Heinrich, also a linen weaver, born 1789, grew up at Tiefenbach and raised his children with Wilhelmina Boehl (b 1800 in Schwarzenau) there. His sister Maria Magdalena Bueschel (1799-1855) married to Johannes Otto (1795-1860) also lived at Tiefenbach.
6. Christian Bueschel (1821-1867), son of Heinrich & married to Karolina Becker (1827-1919), sold the property in 1852 to George Mengel, husband of Maria Magdalina Bueschel, sister to Christian. The Ottos and Mengels remained at Tiefenbach, while Christian and Heinrich and their families emigrated to Monee, Illinois.
7. Tiefenbach now is owned by the Freitag family: Otto (d 1994), Martha and their children now enjoy the ‘deep valley’.
