CORBIN, F. S., "History and Genealogy of the Descendant Families of Miron S. and Kathrine E. CORBIN," p. 89
"Myron was born and reared on the family farm 1 mile west and ½ mile south of Lily, SD. He is a graduate of Lily High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps for a two-year hitch. After serving one 1 year at El Toro Marine Base, in California, he opted to be honorably discharged when the Corps adopted a new policy requiring the two-year enlistees to either commit for three years or be discharged. Upon returning from the Marine Corps Myron accepted a job at a grain elevator near Omaha, NE. He later returned to Lily and joined the South Dakota National Guard unit at Webster. Myron's Guard unit was called to active duty during the Korean War, and he served with the unit as it performed active duty missions at Colorado Springs, Colorado and Anchorage, Alaska. Following active duty, Myron and his wife, Deloris, took up farming 1½ miles west of Lily. In 1959 the family moved to Webster, SD where Myron took a job with the Milk Producers Association driving a bulk milk truck and working as a substitute mail carrier. At the time of his death, Myron was First Sergeant of the 197th Field Artillery Battalion, SD National Guard, and was employed as a full-time technician for the Webster, SD unit. Myron lost his life in the Rapid City flood of June 9, 1972, while his National Guard unit was performing two weeks of active duty exercises in the nearby South Dakota Badlands area."
