1734 Beneficiary in the will of his uncle, John Shepherd "....I also give and devise unto Richard Shepherd my nephew of Pirton aforsaid all that cottage or tenement with the appurtenances situate standing and being in Pirton aforsaid in the occupation of John Day together - with all out houses edifices buildings yards gardens and hedges ditches trees fences commons ways waters easements proffits commodities and appurtenances to the said cottage or tenement belonging or appertaining to hold the said cottage or tenement and premises with the appurtenances unto the said Richard Shepherd and to his heirs and assignes forever I also give and devise more unto the said Richard Shepherd all that close or pightle of arrable land and pasture ground with the appurtenances lying in Pirton aforsaid and containing by estemation three roods and also all that pole of meadow and pasture ground lying in a leet or known by the name of the Polewood Leet in the loft meadows in Pirton aforsaid the said Close or pightle and pole of meadow ground being heretofore the lands of Mary Horn and holden of the manor of Pirton in the county of Hertford aforesaid by Coppy of Court Roll to hold the said Close or pightle and pole of meadow ground with the appurtenances unto the said Richard Shepherd and of his Heirs and assignes forever. The rest or residue of my Custumary or Coppyhold lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever lying and being in the Parish and fields of Pirton aforesaid and within the several manors of Pirton aforesaid and Pirton Rectory in the said County of Hertford with every of their rights members appendants and appurtenances...."
