Leonard Calvert married Ann Brent, daughter of Richard Brent. Later in 1643, Ann gave birth to a son, William Calvert and in 1644 a daughter. Leonard Calvert returned to Maryland in 1644 with his wife and child, but was soon forced to flee to Virginia. He returned at the head of an armed force in 1646 and reasserted proprietarial rule.

The woman credited with being his wife, Anne Brent, claimed Royal ancestry but primarily Spanish and despised French rather than English and therefore somewhat less ·Äúclout·Äù than the Ladies Baltimore. Anne·Äôs forebears included no less than:
Alfonso V of Leon
Alfonso VI of Leon
Sancho II of Castile
Alfonso VII of Leon
Alfonso IX of Leon
Louis VIII of France
Louis IX of France
Edward I of England

According to Charles Brashear, the Katherine Brent married to Richard Marsham and the subject of these messages is NOT the daughter of Giles Brent and Mary Kittamaquond but in records is stated to have "been in service" in England before her marriage to Richard. Therefore, she was born in England and came as a young woman to the colonies where she married Richard Marsham.
The whole "Giles Brent" connection seems to have been a fabrication of someone who entered it into the LDS database. Another reason to be wary of that format. Thanks for all the input into this query.
Father: Richard * BRENT b: 1573 in Larke Stoke, Gloucestershire, England
Mother: Elizabeth * REED b: ABT 1578 in of Tusburie, England
Marriage 1 Leonard * CALVERT b: 1606 in London, England
Married: 1642
Note: George Calvert , (XXXXX@XXXX.XXX) writes: ..."I have not any proof of Leonard's marriage to Ann. The belief has long been that Leonard Calvert did mar a "Brent", and many of us continue to show "Ann Brent" as being his wife. Actually, he probably married one of Ann's cousins, since there is written evidence that Ann was sitll using her maiden name (Brent) long after Leonard's death.

Margaret Peshell was the wife of Richard Brent Jr., they were the parents of the Spinster Anne Brent mentioned in the 1651 record. She is being confused with Her Aunt whose mother was Elizabeth Reed. I have looked at the Brents transcribed records baptisms ect..

The mention of Anne Brent as a spinster, that is actually a niece of original Anne Brent, I have looked at these records.
Anne Brent daughter of Richard Brent and Elizabeth Reed, had a brother named Richard Brent no doubt named for his father, he had a wife off the top of my head I believe her first name was Margaret, when you look at the records for the Spinster Anne Brent she is the daughter of Richard Brent Jr., and Margaret??? she has been confused with her Aunt. My thinking is the reason we don't have a record for Leonard Calvert's marriage to Anne Brent is because it was a Catholic Ceremony. Just speculation, they would have been marrying in England on Leonard's trip back from Maryland it wasn't popular to be a Practicing Catholic in England in those days.

From The Pearsall Family :1100 Years:
http://home.teleport.com/~grafe/Pearsalls/Pearsalls/Brents.html
This branch of the family were Catholics and were in constant trouble with the authorities on account of their failure to attend upon the services of the Established Church of England. The family of Brent divided at this time in their religious adherence the same as the Horsley-London branches of the Horsley family of Pershall. In the Royalist papers (State Papers, Domestic, G 72, pages 231, 276 and 285) appears the following:
January 25, 1654-5. Order for search to be made in the old books as to the sequestration of the manor of Larkstoke, Co. Gloucester, for the Recusancy of Richard Brent the elder, deceased, or of Foulke Brent, Richard Brent the younger, Edward Brent, George Brent, Anne Brent and Jane Brent, children of said Richard Brent the elder...When the children were summoned to take the [loyalty] oath there appeared only Mrs Anne Brent and she refused to take it. The estate was therefore continued under sequestration, all of them being known papists.
Dated at Gloucester May 10, 1653. It was an important fact in our family history that this branch of the Brent family were Roman Catholics and the friends of the Calverts and the Lords Baltimore." (Pearsalls pp 994-996)
