Later heeft zoon Bennie de boerderij gekocht , voor zijn ouders werd een bungalow op de naastgelegen kavel gebouwd. Achter in het veld aan de Westerstraat stond de boerderij die Knelis ging pachten.     Tekst van het bidprentje;

    Vader is thuis gestorven- zijn laatste wens- na liefdevol verzorgd te zijn door moeder en kinderen. Het afscheid viel hem niet zwaar. Hij aanvaardde de dood, zich gesteund wetende door een eenvoudig doch diep geloof.  In zijn leven was hij bij tegenslag zelden opstandig.  Gekateb aanvaardde hij  de dingen . Hij verstond het  om naar de mensen te luisteren, ze aan te horen zonder te veroordelen.  Zijn leven heeft hij gedeeld met Gertruida Zoelman met wie hij in het huwelijk trad op 6 april 1926.

    Hij had de zorg voor een groot gezin en voelde zich tot op de laaatste dag daarvoor verantwoordelijk.  Als boer was hij precies. Het land en de boerderij lagen er altijd netjes en verzorgd bij.

    Bij de kleinkinderen was hij geliefd. Opa had altijd tijd voor een praatje. Met zijn humor  wist hij de kinderen te raken.
