This profile gives August 20, 1643 as date of death, but the exact date is not known. The first report of the incident was made in John Winthrop's journal as the first entry for the month of September, but certainly took many days, possibly weeks for the news to reach him. This profile gives Hutchinson Farm, above Pelham Bay, Nieuw Nederland, (Now Westchester) as the place of death and burial. The exact location of the Hutchinson home is not known. Otto Hufeland, in 1929, concluded that it was between Rattlesnake Brook and Black Dog Brook, on the west side of the Hutchinson River in Eastchester, but the small creeks described at the time are now long gone.
