John, the father, married Agnes Wauker in 1606. She was presumably his mother. The only other positive fact we have about John is the birth of his son WilliamWilcox, Wayne Howard Miller. #William Corey, son of John Corey, was bpt at St James, Bristol, Gloucester, England, 21 May 1634; d. at Portsmouth, Rhode Island 8 Feb 1681/2; m. Mary Earle.
Due to the lack of records there is a lot of speculation about what happened to this John. He may have died in England before 1638, or in England in 1660. He might have been in Portsmouth before 1643, but Portsmouth has no records of him.The early records of the town of Portsmouth; by Portsmouth (R.I.); Perry, Amos, ed; Brigham, Clarence S. (Clarence Saunders), ed. (Providence, R.I., E. L. Freeman & Sons, state printers, 1901) However, Newport has a record for a John Corey.
"At a Quarter Session held at Nuport the 3 of dec Ano 1643" "George Cleere & John Cory being indited upõ suspicion of felony & bound in x li a peec to appear the next Qter Court."Chapin, Howard M. ''Documentary history of Rhode Island.'' (Providence, Preston and Rounds co., 1916) [https://archive.org/details/documentaryhisto02chap/page/150 p. 150] Was this the son of John and Agnis and father of William? Did he leave town abandoning his young son? Did he die?
At this session also, [[Roame-1|John Roome]], 2nd husband of John Corey's wife Agnes, was before the court for making slanderous statements against Governor Coddington, and [[Earle-82|Ralph Earle]] for misbehaving.
John Roome, second husband of Agnis/Ann, John's mother was in Aquidneck by 1638. It is reasonable to speculate that John and his son William may have come at the same time. However, John Cory was not on this same list, that also contained the names of Ralph Earle and George Cleer.Records of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, in New England by Rhode Island; Bartlett, John Russell, 1805-1886. DNA has proved that the John on Long Island was not related to this family.[http://www.coryfamsoc.com/dna-project/dna_project_part_2.htm Cory Society DNA Project]
There is not enough evidence to support any death date for John.
