Notes about Guillaume François "Guy" Zweerts

In de begintijd van het voetbal bestond het Nederlands voetbal alleen nog maar uit amateurvoetbal, en de voetbalcompetities waren regionaal verdeeld. Vanaf 1898 werd er gespeeld tussen de kampioen van West en de kampioen van Oost. Nederland had destijds namelijk twee klasses, de oostelijke en de westelijke klasse. Zij streden om het landskampioen van Nederland. De grote clubs uit die beginjaren waren HVV uit Den Haag, Sparta uit Rotterdam en RAP uit Amsterdam. In de beginjaren was vooral RAP dominerend. In seizoen 1896/1897 en 1897/1898 was RAP al officieus landskampioen, maar vanaf seizoen 1898/1899 mocht de club zich officieel landskampioen noemen. In 1897/1898 moest RAP daarvoor de kampioen van de oostelijke afdeling, Vitesse uit Arnhem, verslaan. Ze deden dat met 4-2. In 1898/1899 was weer Vitesse de tegenstander. Dit keer moesten ze verslagen worden over twee wedstrijden, en dat lukte: de uitslagen waren 3-2 en 2-1 in het voordeel van RAP. In 1899 won RAP ook de Holdertcup, nu beter bekend als de KNVB Beker. RAP werd in dat jaar de eerste winnaar van de dubbel.

In die jaren speelde Guillaume François Zweerts in de voorhoede van RAP. Hij werd geboren op 24 april 1876 in Amsterdam als zoon van makelaar in tabak Guillaume François Zweerts en Catharina Gerharda Berkhoff. In de jaren dat Guillaume in RAP speelde zal hij waarschijnlijk nog niet in Baarn gewoond hebben, maar begin vorige eeuw komt hij naar Baarn en koopt hij Holland House op de Lt. Gen. Van Heutszlaan 6 in Baarn. Hij zal het pand gekocht hebben van Taco Greidanus, vader van de Baarnse hofarts Sytze Greidanus, die tot aan zijn overlijden in 1912 Holland House bewoonde. In het telefoonboek van 1915 staat Guillaume Zweerts vermeld als bewoner van de villa.

Guillaume Zweerts mocht zich dus met zijn club RAP de eerste officiële landskampioen van Nederland noemen. Dat de familie Zweerts vermogend was, blijkt wel uit het feit dat ze zo'n mooie villa bewoonden. Met voetballen zal hij zijn kapitaal niet bij elkaar vergaard hebben. In die tijd leverde het voetballen nog niet veel op, ook al werd je landskampioen. Het kapitaal zal wel uit de tabakshandel van vader Zweerts gekomen zijn. In 1929 was G.F. Zweerts één van de oprichters van het Baarnsch Lyceum.

Op Holland House, bij de familie Zweerts liep het nodige aan Baarnse inwoners als personeel rond. Teunis Ravenhorst (1888-1962) was tuinbaas bij het Baarnsch Lyceum en op Holland House, en de zusjes Jannetje Roos (1908-1993) en Geertruida Roos (1911-1993) waren dienstbode bij de familie Zweerts.
