Hoewel van Geerlof geen doopakte is gevonden, is het wel zeker dat hij een kind is van Willem Geerlofszn van den Haak en Claertje Cornelisse de Jongh. Hij wordt niet genoemd in het testament van de eerste schoonouders van Willem Geerlofszn (Willem Ermbouts de Ligt en Merrigje Willems Griffioen) op 26 augustus 1721, en dit is na het overlijden Marrigje Willems de Ligt) [Rechterlijk Archief Zegveld en Zegvelderbroek, inv 2379, akte 68]. Geerlof Willemsz wordt wel genoemd in het testament van zijn oom Huijbert Cornelisse de Jongh op 9 september 1753 [Rechterlijk Archief Zegveld en Zegvelderbroek, inv 2381, akte 166].
