Subject: RE: George Enoch Quinnell

Hi Brian, George Enoch Quinnell was my maternal grandfather. He married Florence Ellen Alliston on 29th April 1912 in Enfield, Middx. He was a butcher at Smithfield. There were 2 children, my mother, Florence Irene Quinnell and my aunt, Myrtle Ellen Quinnell. Both married and had children. Florence Ellen Quinnell died in 1937 when my mum was 7 and my aunt 1. GEQ subsequently married 3 more times. I think he disappeared around 1938. My aunt traced him to Selsdon in south east London, but he'd left and didn't leave a forwarding address. All attempts to trace him failed and he never contacted any of the family. I know that my mum & aunt had half or step brothers (don't know which) but I don't know anything about them.

As you probably know Quinnell is a Kentish name. GEQ was born on 23rd March 1887 at Bethel Road, Harts Lands, Sevenoaks. His father Thomas was a carpenter and joiner who married Ellen Prall in 1870.

It seems that GEQ was the first one to move from Kent to south London. He and Florence were living in Kennington when my mum and aunt were born right up until they both got married. It was from there that he left abruptly.

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it, it gives me some more information. As to GEQ, I knew it was a long shot but had to take it as he's such a mystery man.
I've contacted the Butchers Hall Guild to see if they have any information about him and am awaiting a reply.
I suppose this makes us very distant cousins (or something)!
