Notes about Elizabeth Hamblin

On 1841 census Elizabeth is shown as the dau. of Jemmima Hamblin aged 35 a Wood Merchant. Elizabeth has 4 younger siblings. Eliza, William, Ann and Jane.

Jemima Hamblin (not Cook) may well have been William’s wife. The facts fit an overall picture. The 1841 census (HO107/718/6 p33) shows Jemima was a widow with five children: the youngest being Jane aged 2. As the census was taken on 6th/7th June, Jane must have been born no later than June 1839. which suggests that Jemima was pregnant when William died in the December quarter of 1838. As Kingston was the main registration office for the district, the death probably occurred in and was registered at Hampton.
