EUGENE WILLIAM JOY died in Qld on 19th Oct 1962 and PRICILLA LILY died 31st March 1935. I do not know the reason for Eugene's death but I have been told Pricilla took her own life while the family were at church. One of her daughters found her on arrival home. My dad was only 3yrs old and never really got over not having his mum around. Dad was then placed in an orphanage (Catholic Convent), as his dad could not handle a baby on his own. Dad's sisters were that bit older and didn’t need so much so they got to stay with their father. My dad had a rough childhood.

MAREEBA NOTES.

(For the "Post" and "Herald")

Cairns.

A Xmas wedding was solemnised at St Thomas R.C. Church. The bridegroom was Mr. Eugene William Joy, from Mt Mulligan, and the bride Miss Pricilla Lily Hewlett, both very popular and well liked up the line. Father Phelan performed the ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Maurice Joy acted as best man for his brother, and Miss Minnie Kelly was bridesmaid. The bride was dressed in a sweetly pretty wedding dress of ivory white crepe-de-chine, with white satin ribbon sash, and trimmed with clusters of pearls. She wore the bride groom's wedding present, a gold wristlet watch, and a beautifully embroidered full length veil, with the customary wreath of orange blossoms. The bridesmaid wore a very pretty pale blue marquisette frock, hand embroidered, with clusters of tiny pink rosebuds, and a pale blue aerophane and tulle hat with a pale pink mount. Both dresses were made by the bridesmaid, Miss Minnie Kelly. The bridesmaid also wore the bride-groom's present, a gold brooch. The wedding breakfast was held at the Royal Hotel (Mr. and Mrs. T. Kelly) and was attended by over a score of guests. The table was very prettily laid out and the breakfast a very merry one. Father Phelan proposed the toast of the bridegroom in his usual happy style, and was responded to by the groom with equal wit. The best man made all laugh merrily with him when he proposed the bridesmaid. Mr. Wm. Joy proposed the parents of the bride, and the parents of the groom. Congratulatory telegrams and presents kept arriving during the breakfast. Amid more laughter the bride cut the cake, a beautiful three storey confection of Mrs. McFar lane's. The happy couple left by the 2 p.m. train for Kuranda, where the honeymoon was to be spent, with Cairns to follow. The going away dress was grey sicilian, with a white aerophane hat. A shower of rice, &c, with good wishes, followed the newly married ones into Mr. Abrahams' motor car, and again at the train. The happy couple received a great number of presents.
