Identified at the right rear is: 20273 Sapper (Spr) William Houston McNeice, 1st Field Company Engineers, of Cronulla, NSW. Prior to enlisting with the AIF on 29 July 1917 Spr McNeice served with the 39th Infantry, Citizens Military Forces. He embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor on 21 November 1917. He returned to Australia on 4 July 1919.
