MY GRANDFATHER WILLIAM A BUTTON WAS BORN 1899 TO FREDERICK AND ELIZA BUTTON AROUND THE EAST HILL AREA OF HASTINGS. THEIR MAIN EMPLOYMENT WAS AS HAWKERS OF WATERCRESS. HE HAD ONE BROTHER FREDERICK AND 3 SISTERS ANNIE, NELLIE AND PHOEBE. LIVING WITH THEM WAS ELIZA'S SISTER PHOEBE BROWN WHO WAS BELIEVED TO BE APPROXIMATLEY 19 IN 1901. THE BUTTON FAMILY OR THE WATERCRESS PEOPLE OF HASTINGS HAD ADDRESSES : 10 BOURNE STREET 2 JENERS COTTAGES AND SCRIPTES BUILDINGS.
