·  Ernest Henley (George's son) and Helen Button (his first cousin: daughter of
George Ernest Button, Mary Ann's youngest brother)
The earliest Button ancestor traced so far is Edward Butten born about 1620 inArlington, Sussex, who married Dorothy Tompkin. The Button family lived in WestDean, and later East Blatchington, for several generations.
Benjamin Button, born 1818 in East Blatchington, a bootmaker, married CharlotteWalters in 1839. They soon moved to Brighton, and they had
five children
·  Benjamin born 1841 (married Jane Austin in 1862 and
had 4 children)

·  Elisabeth born 1843 (married George Stoner in 1866
and had 4 children)

·  Charlotte born 1844 (married Joseph Darling in 1868
and had 7 children)

·  John Walters born 1846 (married Mary Likeman in
1867. Possible second marriage in 1871)

·  James Edward 1848-1849
We are in contact with a number of descendants of the foureldest Button children.
Charlotte died in 1850 and Benjamin married again soon after. In the 1851 census,Eleanor Stace (born 1828 in East Blatchington, a dressmaker) was living with him as a'visitor'; they were married in the summer of 1851.
