Hij was het derde kind van Odulphus Becx en Antonia Manni die op 23 oktober 1834 in Tilburg gehuwd waren. Frans kwam op 21 maart 1844 ter wereld. Hij is op zondag 1 december samen met onder meer Willem Baeten naar Rome vertrokken. Zijn zoeaventijd loopt van 7 december 1867 tot 9 juni 1870 (lgnr. 6208). Dit zou erop wijzen dat hij voor een half jaar heeft bijgetekend, aangezien twee jaar de normale periode was. Hij ontving de Bene Merentimedaille. Terug uit Rome huwt hij op 12 januari 1872 in Tilburg met Anna Willems. Het echtpaar kreeg in Tilburg twaalf kinderen, waarvan er vijf de leeftijd van één jaar niet bereikten. Becx was bakker en op latere leeftijd ook klerk. Hij woonde omstreeks 1880 op de Nieuwendijk M 138.

Frans Becx heeft een centrale rol gespeeld bij de oprichting van de Tilburgse zoeavenbroederschap in 1871. Zijn advertentie in het Weekblad van Tilburg van 11 juni 1871 kan als de aanzet tot de vereniging worden beschouwd. Becx nodigde daarin alle zoeaven uit Tilburg en omgeving uit om zich bij hem te verzamelen en gezamenlijk het Jubelfeest van de Paus - Pius IX was op 16 juni 25 jaar paus - bij te gaan wonen. Rondom deze gebeurtenis is Fidei et Virtuti ontstaan. Hij was daar de eerste voorzitter van. In 1879 staat hij nog als voorzitter in het adresboek van Tilburg vermeld; daarna wordt dat Piet Scheefhals. Samen met hem kreeg hij bij het 25-jarig bestaan van Fidei et Virtuti de onderscheiding Ridder in de Sylvesterorde.

Hij was aanwezig op de Mentanaherdenking van 1892 in Utrecht. Ook op latere leeftijd verscheen hij regelmatig in zoeavenuniform bij katholieke feesten of gebeurtenissen. Hij is misschien wel als de meest echte Tilburgse zoeaaf te beschouwen, omdat hij zijn hele leven in deze stad heeft doorgebracht en steeds openlijk voor de beginselen van de zoeaven uitkwam. Zijn overlijden op 21 april 1923 is uitgebreid in de krant beschreven.
