Notes about Stephanus van Aken


Hij was broodbakker. Stephanus wordt niet genoemd in de hoofdgeldlijst van Oudenbosch in 1770 bij het gezin van Aken-de Wolff. Hij begon een bakkerij op de Markt met naast brood ook koek en banket. Bovendien had hij nog een tabakskerverij en oefende hij de beroepen van kaarsenmaker, tapper, winkelier en koopman uit. Hij was raadslid van 1821 t/m 1823 en directeur van de Oudenbossche burgersociëteit 'Burgersociëteit Vrijbos". In het bevolkingsregister van 1850 worden vier kinderen als bakker vermeld. Ondanks zijn drukke bestaan en als vader van een groot gezin heeft hij een ijzersterke gezondheid. Hij overleed uiteindelijk op 96-jarige leeftijd.
