Honderd jaar bestaan.
De vader van Toontje Welten, Wilhelmus Godefriedus Welten, begon samen met zijn vrouw Maria een koffiehuis in 1904. Dat wil zeggen, zijn vrouw "deed" overdag het café en hij 's avonds. Het was geen vetpot: het weekloon van de klant ging naar de vrouw, wat erover bleef kon manlief in de kroeg spenderen. Veel was dat niet.
Ze kregen vijf kinderen, waarvan er drie in leven bleven. Na het overlijden van hun vader in 1934 erfden zij het café. Toon en Jet namen het café over. De andere broer Frits werd frater in Tilburg.
