Jacob de Wijze was getrouwd met Saartje Katan. Het echtpaar had drie kinderen. Het gezin verhuisde in 1938 van Boxmeer naar de Pontanusstraat in Nijmegen.
Jacob de Wijze had als roepnaam Jaap. Hij was medefirmant van een vee- en exportslachterij in Cuijk.
Het gezin De Wijze werd in de nacht van 2 op 3 oktober 1942 bij een razzia uit huis gehaald en naar Westerbork afgevoerd. De drie kinderen hebben de oorlog overleefd.

Tijdens de oorlog woonde er een joodse vluchteling uit Duitsland bij de familie De Wijze. Inge Marga Meierhof probeerde naar het Westen te vluchten maar kwam wegens het uitbreken van de oorlog niet verder dan Nederland. Ze werd gedeporteerd en vermoord op dezelfde datum als het echtpaar De Wijze.
