In 1795 stelde hij zijn schuit beschikbaar om de prinsessen van Oranje naar Engeland te voeren. Bij de landing van de prins in november 1813 verwelkomde hij de koninklijke familie met een prachtige toespraak. Kort na deze gebeurtenis stierf hij in december 1813
