Aangezien uit he huwelijk van Gualtherus Johannes Schardam en Maartje Kriek geen kinderen werden geboren, werden zij de suikeroom en -tante van de kinderen van de drie zusters Schardam. Dat dit niet een geheel loze kreet was, mag blijken uit stukken in het familiearchief waaruit hierna het één en ander vermeld wordt.

Op 5 maart 1929 maakte Gualtherus Johannes Schardam zijn testament, voor notaris CJ. de Lange te Alkmaar, waarbij hij zijn echtgenote tot enig erfgenaam maakte; in geval zij voor hem zou overlijden werd zijn inboedel gelegateerd aan zijn neven Cornelis Wit Gerritszoon en Simon Gualtherus Wit Simonszoon, terwijl de rest van de nalatenschap over de wettige erfgenamen verdeeld zou moeten worden. Beide genoemde neven werden tot executeurs benoemd.

Aangezien zijn echtgenote hem overleefde werd zij bij zijn dood inderdaad de universeel erfgenaam. Blijkbaar hadden de genoemde neven een 'streepje voor' bij oom en tante, want ook in de testamenten van tante komen zij voor als erfgenamen van speciale legaten, aanvankelijk alleen de inboedel, later echter ook geldbedragen. Daarnaast werden zij met de andere kinderen van de zusters ook bedeeld als gewone erfgenamen. Enkele van de legaten werden vrij van successierecht toebedeeld. Een grove berekening leert dat zij bij haar dood ongeveer fl 50.000 moet hebben nagelaten.60
