De nieuwe wereld brengt wat mee,geen mens op aard is thans tevree.
Een ieder roept thans om meer geld, Is 't niet in vrede dan met geweld.
De mensen houden dol van pret, fatsoen word minder op gelet.
Daar wil men zich niet mee bemoeien, maar wel met onfatsoenlijk stoeien.
Ook elke week is hier den dans, ze springen rond als dolle Hans.
De jongen ja, maar ook de ouden, en daags daarna zijn zij verkouden.
Dan blijven zij heel lang te bed, en het werk blijft dan opzij gezet,
of niet gedaan zooals het behoort, en een tamelijk stelletje mensen ook niet bekoort.
En daags daarna dan gaan ze wandelen, ze hebben nog pret, wat zijn ze zot.,
Het is alles wellust en genot, wat moet er van zoon mensdom komen.
Dat steeds leeft van zoete dromen, en zelden denkt hier aan zijn plicht,
Wat is het mensdom toch verlicht, maar zij die op deze aard zo prijken.
Mogen er eenmaal voor bezwijken, het kost hun gezondheid en hun kracht.
Door het genot dat hun zo tegenlacht, uitgaan en dansen is wel prachtig,
maar de meerderheid is niet zoo krachtig, financieel of van gestel.
Het voert de mensen steeds naar de hel, als het niet meer kan is er berouw.
De man die zegt dan tot zijn vrouw, hoe kon Je zo lichtzinnig wezen,
Moesten wij daar niet voor vrezen, de een geeft de ander nu de schuld,
En uit is het met het geduld, de man word boos, de vrouw is kwaad,
Zoo komen zij beiden over de straat.
