Notes about Johan Petrus Mr. Thierens

NOTE: Hij werd student te Leiden, waar hij 18 Sept. 1777 voor de rechten werd ingeschreven. Na zijn promotie werd hij 1e secretaris van Naarden en Lande van Goyland, baljuw van Oud- en Nieuw Loosdrecht, Mijnden en Loenen, postmeestergeneraal der posterij Amsterdam - Osnabrück - Hamburg, greffier et membre du conseil-général du département du Zuiderzee en hoogheemraad der Zuiderzeedijk. burgemeester te Naarden

Bij het bezoek, dat Napoleon 21 Oct. 1811 aan Naarden bracht, dejeuneerde deze ten huize van Mr. J.P. Thierens. Tot het gevolg van den Keizer behoorde generaal Krayenhoff, prins Berthier, de hertog van Reggio, de fransche kolonel der genie Paris en de holl. kap.-ingenieur Lobry.
woonde in de Cattenhagestraat 8 (nu stadsarchief) Zonder overigens burgemeester te zijn. Dat werd hij in 1817 voor de tweede maal. Hij kreeg toen zoveel kritiek, dat hij in 1820 zijn aftreden aankondigde. Thierens bleef evenwel tot zijn dood in 1840 presidentburgemeester.
Zijn kinderen, die geen nageslacht verwekten, maakten alle bezittingen ten gelde en zo kwam aan Naardens invloedrijkste patriciersgeslacht een roemloos einde.

De Tierensweg in naarden is vernoemd naar het rijke Thierensgeslacht, dat in de 17e en 18e eeuw maar liefst vijf generaties achtereen de presidentburgemeester van Naarden leverde.
Merkwaardig genoeg is slechts één portret van een Thierens (Jacobus(1654-1720 in Naarden te vinden.
