Notes about Gertrude van SAKSEN

Gertrude de Saxe, née vers 1028 à Schweinfurt (Franconie) et morte le 4 août 1113 à Furnes (Flandre), est une princesse de la famille Billung, fille du duc Bernard II de Saxe et d'Eilika de Schweinfurt. Elle fut par mariage comtesse de Frise-Occidentale de 1050 à 1061, puis de Flandre de 1071 à 1093.

Elle était fille de Bernard II Billung (mort en 1059), duc de Saxe depuis 1011, et de son épouse Eilika (morte après 1055/56), fille du margrave Henri de Schweinfurt. Selon toute probabilité, la famille Billung est de parenté avec les descendants de Widukind, chef des Saxons à l'époque de Charlemagne.
